(Moderator) Live Transcription / Closed Captions

💡 This page covers enabling Closed Captions (Live Transcription) and assigning a manual captioner.

Summary

Enabling closed captions is an important accessibility feature of Zoom, that some of our clients and/or owners will request to have turned on. There are two types: Automated and Manual. Below you will find instructions on how to turn on and setup both.

Steps

Live Transcription / Automated Captioning

  1. At the bottom, click Show captions.

  1. Click Show Captions. (If it says Hide captions, it's on.) You will also see a pop-up stating it's enabled.

Manual Transcription / Manual Captioning

  1. Click the small arrow beside Show Captions.
  2. Click Setup Manual Captioner.
  3. You can copy the API token to be used with a 3rd-party captioning software or assign someone to type.

Tips & Important Reminders

❗ If there is an ASL interpreter, we recommend spotlighting the interpreter (must be a panelist) so that the attendees will always be able to see the interpreter on their screen.

👀 Each attendee has the option to enable/disable viewing transcriptions.
