Elections: Ineligible and Ranked Candidate Votes

This article provides details into GetQuorum's candidate ranking feature, which allows owners to list and rank candidates on the electronic proxy as they could with a paper proxy form.

Note:  whenever a candidate's name is removed from the ballot (live question), the candidate should be marked as ineligible in the same election on the Overview page.

Identifying Ranked Candidates

The easiest way to determine whether ranking has been enabled is by viewing the data from the Advanced Voting Results on the Overview page.

Another way to view ranking is during a live vote at the meeting. From the overview page, when a candidate is marked as INELIGIBLE,  the advanced votes for the ineligible candidate are removed and the next candidate choice(s) votes will be included in the vote totals.

For example, Mindy Kaling won the owner occupied election so she was removed from the ballot for the general election. The moderator also set Mindy to INELIGIBLE on the Overview page under the general election so that Mindy's advanced votes are removed and were recast to the remaining candidates.

👉Notice how Jenna's advanced votes went from 2 to 205 with Mindy removed!

Handling Ranked Candidates

It's imperative to follow the steps below, as not doing so can impact the results: whenever a candidate's name is removed from the ballot (live question), the candidate should be marked as ineligible in the same election on the Overview page.

When Should Ranking be Considered?

  1. If a candidate withdraws/drops out of the election, set them to INELIGIBLE on the Overview page in both elections (if applicable)
  2. If there is both an owner occupied and a general election: the candidate who wins the first election must be removed from the subsequent election ballot and must be set to INELIGIBLE on the Overview page.

What Steps to Take

  1. From the overview page, identify the candidate who has withdrawn from the election or who won the previous election.
  2. Click on the green ELIGIBLE button to toggle the candidate to INELIGIBLE.
  3. You'll notice right away that the advanced votes for the ineligible candidate are removed and the next candidate choice(s) votes will be included in the vote totals.

FAQ

1. I'm not sure if the ranking feature is enabled.

If you're unsure, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager (support@getquorum.com) to confirm.

2. What happens without candidate ranking?

Without the candidate ranking during advance voting, owners can make selections up to the number of positions available. As an example, if there are 2 general positions available but there are 3 candidates, the owners may only select 2 candidates.

3. Does this feature work with paper proxies?

Yes: as long as you have converted your paper proxies into electronic ones!
